šŸ’™ How Odd Eyes & Dominant Blue Eyes Work in Sphynx Cats

Discover the rare eye colors behind the NakedSphynxLake name

At NakedSphynxLake, we’re known for producing healthy, affectionate Sphynx kittens with stunning features—including rare eye traits like odd eyes and vivid blue eyes. These mesmerizing eye colors aren’t just visually striking—they’re the result of fascinating feline genetics.

šŸ”¹ What Are Odd Eyes?

Odd-eyed Sphynx kittens have two different colored eyes—typically one blue and one green, gold, or hazel. This condition, called heterochromia, is completely harmless and gives the cat a truly unforgettable appearance.

How It Happens:

  • Caused by lack of melanin (pigment) in one eye
  • Often linked to the white spotting gene (S) or dominant white gene (W)
  • Common in white, bicolor, and high white Sphynx kittens

šŸ”· What Causes Blue Eyes?

Blue eyes happen when there’s no pigment in the iris. Light reflects off the back of the eye, giving it a blue appearance. This can be caused by:

  • Colorpoint gene (cs/cs) – typical in Siamese-type patterns
  • Dominant white gene (W) – suppresses all pigment
  • White spotting gene (S) – partially suppresses pigment

Black & white kittens can express blue or odd eyes if they carry enough white spotting.

šŸ–¤ Can Black Kittens Have Odd or Blue Eyes?

Yes! While solid black Sphynx kittens usually have gold or green eyes, those with white spotting or pigment-suppressing genes may have blue or odd eyes. This includes:

  • Black & white tuxedo kittens
  • High white black kittens with white on the face, chest, or paws
  • Kittens from lines that carry colorpoint or white spotting genetics

🧬 Is Blue Eye Color Dominant?

Not exactly. Blue isn’t a dominant eye color, but the genes that suppress pigment (like W or cs) can be dominant.

In simple terms: Blue eyes are the result of pigment loss—not a dominant trait over gold or green.

šŸ’Ž Why These Traits Are Rare

Producing blue or odd-eyed kittens requires specific gene combinations. Even with the right parents, these traits don’t appear in every litter. That’s why they’re considered premium and often carry a higher adoption fee.
